Sacristan- An officer who is charged with the care of the sacristy, the church, and their contents. A Sacristan helps prep for the Mass by getting out sufficient hosts, wine, linens, etc. To become a Sacristan, please contact Father James.
Altar Server- A person, often a youth, who assists the celebrant in a liturgical service. Among other things, he or she lights the candles prior to Mass, helps the priest by leading the procession into the church, holds Father’s Missal, takes the gifts from the people during Offertory, holds the water and cloths for the priest, is in charge of the bell ringing at the Consecration, and leads the priest out of the sanctuary at the end of Mass. Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion- An Extraordinary Minister is someone who assists with the distribution of the Holy Body and Precious Blood of Christ during Communion. All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine. To become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, please add your name during the quarterly ministry sign-ups. Training will be provided.
Lector- A lector is responsible for proclaiming the Word of God to the congregation. Lectors are responsible for announcing the opening, proclaiming the first and second readings, the Prayers of the Faithful, and the announcements. A lector may also participate in the procession into Mass by carrying the Book of Gospels. To become a lector, please add your name during the quarterly ministry sign-ups. Training will be provided.
Gift Bearer- The gift bearer is usually 2-4 people who work together to present the gifts of bread, wine, and money during the offertory.
Usher- If an assigned greeter is not already present, ushers greet the worshipers as they enter the church and may assist them in finding a seat, especially at Masses where the size of the congregation nears or exceeds the seating capacity of the church. Ushers help with the collection of money during the offertory. They also hand out bulletins at the end of Mass as they bid farewell to the departing parishioners.
Hospitality- While Mass is a spiritual affair, it is also social in nature. The hospitality ministry includes providing a welcoming environment which encourages the gathering of Mass participants after the conclusion of the service. Coffee and juice are supplied by the church, however the person(s) in charge of hospitality need to ensure they are made prior to the end of Mass. Often times, light refreshments such as baked goods or appetizers are prepared and served by the hospitalian. To join the hospitality ministry, please add your name during the quarterly sign-ups.
Choir- This is a special ministry that works in combination with the Music Director. Choir members lead the songs during Mass, provide a musical rendition of the Psalm between the first and second reading, and sing the Alleluia. Often, they also provide a musical meditation after parishioners have received communion. To join the choir, simply attend a choir practice. See the online calendar for meeting times and locations. Extraordinary Minister of Holy Eucharist to the Home Bound– This minister is someone who is trained in the special ministry of transporting and distributing the Holy Eucharist to those members of the parish who are sick or home bound.Please contact Fr. James or Laura Thebo to get more information regarding this ministry.
